The ranch was homesteaded by the noted pioneer Andrew Garcia, best known as the author of Tough Trip Through Paradise. The book chronicles Garcia’s year-long experience living with the Nez Perce Indians from 1878 to 1879. He is buried in a private cemetery on the ranch.
